The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced new regulations with effect from June 1, that will help the process of getting a driver’s license safe and easy.
The Ministry said that one can now take a driving test from a certified driving school instead of taking it from Regional Transport Office (RTO). This should make the process quick and more hassle free.
Additionally, one need not to visit RTO to take driving tests. Driving schools with a minimum amount of land for training (1 acre for two-wheelers, 2 acres for four-wheelers) can conduct driving tests from June 1. Secondly, qualified trainers should also have a high school diploma, at least 5 years of experience and knowledge of IT systems.
The new rules also validate stricter penalties for traffic violations. This includes a fine of Rs 2,000 for driving without a valid driving license. Again, minors caught driving will be slapped a hefty fine of Rs 25,000. Their parents will also face a legal action and the vehicle’s registration shall also be cancelled.
